Oh, boy. Some chapters of the report are now dated. Just to give you an idea: when I pitched it, late in 2005, nobody had ever heard of YouTube! When I delivered it, I had just heard of it for the first time and mentioned it exactly once. And in the month before publication, YouTube became the hit of the year.

I think the overall angle was spot on, and the first and last chapters stand. Obviously, I'd have to rewrite the Google vs Yahoo chapter. And there would have to be much more on video, and then an entire chapter on "social" media. I'd cut the box on virtual worlds (over-hyped) and add one on books.

I think the main update in my thinking, though, is the short-form/long-form dichotomy. A revolution in short-form media; much less change than we though in long-form.

Would be interested to hear your theses when you speak...

Andreas,

I look forward to hearing what you think. I plan to order the same authors on the Greek myths, based on how the Norse myths went over. One thing I forgot to mention that I liked: the stories tend to be short, which is good for reading to children. Though towards the end we were reading three and sometimes four of them, even though they got longer -- we got caught up in what was going to happen.

On the first part of your post, I've been thinking about your big report on media, as well. I'm speaking about the current state of the market at the Society of Professional Journalists' convention next week. I've been pulling together different thoughts and statistics on things, and I intend to use something from your report. I've been meaning to ping you to see if you had updated your thinking.
