It’s the irony of liberals. I sometimes wonder if there’s a conservative equivalent (of irony). But i didn’t find that the soccer mom in the “These colors don’t run”-stickered SUV in Walnut Creek (just through a tunnel from Berkeley) was unexpectedly gentle.

Thanks, Exuvia. Yes, powerful in its terseness, isn’t it? Makes me think about using a loooong passage with a short kachoong for effect. But as I said, no modern editor would take it.

Mr Crotchety: The peace bumper stickers in my previous town (Berkeley) tended to be on old Volvos driven by aging women at an organic supermarket called Berkeley Bowl, where they (the Volvo peace women) were invariably the most vicious and ruthless parking-spot warriors in the whole lot. I felt Melian.
